Sustainable communities

Updated: 2 days ago

The causes we have chosen to support within Force for Good, align with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by all United Nations Member states in 2015. These are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - to join in global partnership and tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues. These Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all and addresses the global challenges that are faced by all human beings, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.

UN SDG #11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Why sustainable communities?

SDG 11 aims to enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanisation and capacity for participatory, integrated, and sustainable human settlement planning and management in all countries by 2030. Strengthening efforts to protect and safeguard the world's cultural and natural heritage.

The key facts:

● 50% of the world’s urban population has convenient access to public transport.

● 55% of the world’s population live in urban areas, which is expected to increase to 68% by 2050, causing half of all global energy use and half of all greenhouse gas emissions.

● 9 out of 10 people worldwide breathe polluted air and an estimated 7 million people die every year from air pollution.

●With rapid population growth and urbanisation, annual waste generation is also expected to increase to 3.40 billion tonnes in 2050.
