Clean water for all

Updated: 2 days ago

The causes we have chosen to support within Force for Good, align with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by all United Nations Member states in 2015. These are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - to join in global partnership and tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues. These Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all and addresses the global challenges that are faced by all human beings, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.

UN SDG #6: Clean Water and Sanitisation

Why clean water?

While substantial progress has been made in increasing access to clean drinking water and sanitation, billions of people—mostly in rural areas—still lack the basic services and the funding is inadequate.

The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the critical importance of sanitation, hygiene, and adequate access to clean water for preventing and containing diseases. However, with 2 in 5 healthcare facilities worldwide lacking soap, water or alcohol-based hand rub, the spread of pathogens and infections, including the COVID-19 virus is rife.

The key facts:

● Every minute, a new-born or a child dies from an infection caused by lack of safe water.

● 2.2 billion people lack safely managed drinking water.

● 4.2 billion people lack safely managed sanitation.

● By 2030, water scarcity is threatening to displace over 700 million people.
